DLNET is currently developing a custom taxonomy of engineering
and technology for use in the various parts of the digital library.
The style of the taxonomy will closely follow INSPEC's electrical
engineering taxonomy that is currently being used for classifying
learning objects such as textbooks, books, journal papers etc.
The DLNET Taxonomy has been incorporated into the Browse Search
page and wherever classification of the learning resources is
required (for e.g., the registration form and the packaging tool).
Please note that this taxonomy is under continuous development.
Your suggestions, recommendations and additions are welcome in
improving and expanding the taxonomy.
The
taxonomy is a three-level listing zooming in from the type of engineering
to the particular subject area describing a learning object. Each
level in the taxonomy has been assigned a unique ID that will be
used throughout DLNET.
For
example, a learning resource about Distribution Transformers
is placed in the DLNET taxonomy under:
|
ELECTRICAL
ENGINEERING
|
ENERGY
AND POWER SYSTEMS |
SUBSTATIONS,
SWITCHGEAR AND TRANSFORMERS |
